Blog Assignment(#3) Obesity

Obesity is a huge health problem in American today.  All of North America is obese.  A lot of obesity in American comes from portion control and the types of food people eat.
A lot of the types of foods people eat are either fast food or what is considered junk.  Fast food is convenient for people when they are in a hurry traveling or on their way out the door.  Fast food is also cheap.  Who wouldn't want to get something on the go that cost .99 cents compared to taking the time to fix food that someone would consider blaned.  All someone has to do is add some spices or marinade whatever meat the are having. Most people find it more convenient to pick up food on the way home than to fix the food after they get home because it has been a long hard day at work!  When people order fast food they tend to get huge sizes.  Most jobs today are seated jobs which is part of the reason people are obese, they aren't expending the extra calories that they are taking in.  Another reason people get the fast food and junk is because it is cheaper.  Most of the processed foods that are found in the middle isles which seem to be the cheapest for people to purchase.  Those foods that are healthiest and on the outside of the grocery store(produce, diary, meats, etc) are going to be more expensive even though the are healthier.
Portion control is also a major issue.  I covered this topic in my previous blog about nutrition.  When going to restuarants, not only are foods extrememly fattening but the portion is also twice the size it needs to be.  One full meal from a restaurant can actually be split into 2 full meals.
Obesity is a growing epidemic in America.  At first we saw in mostly in adults, but today we are even seeing it in children.  Obesity can cause many diseases, such as Type II Diabetes, multiple cardiac disease, and people of other disease but these are the two most common.  I think a lot of the cause is the fast food and portions that children are given and the lack of physical activity.  http://childhood--obesity.blogspot.com/
